I was recently scrolling through my feed on Facebook, and it amazed me that the last time I posted around the new year was back in 2018! A lot has happened during those 5 years, most of which has been influenced by the Covid-19 pandemic. And as harrowing as it’s been, the pandemic had some benefits. Let me explain…
Lockdowns, furlough, work from home and social distancing changed the way we led our daily lives. It gave many of us in business a chance to reconnect with our nearest and dearest, spend time doing the things we’d forgotten we enjoyed and the chance to experience different ways of working.
But the pressures of ‘returning to normal’ may mean that the benefits you, your colleagues or employees enjoyed have had to fall by the wayside in order to reestablish your business to its pre-pandemic state, or restart altogether.
Looking to the future, is there a way you could reintroduce certain elements that worked well to provide a better work/life balance?
Providing a balanced approach will help to reduce stress, increase morale and lead to higher levels of productivity and profitability in the long run.
Plan For A Busy January
The lead up to Christmas can be a hectic time of year. Increased orders, temporary staffing and postal strikes all put added pressure on you and your business.

There’s no letup in the new year.
Gone are the days when you returned to the office from the festive period and things slowly picked up. With so much business done online, your orders, emails and enquiries will be ready and waiting for you to hit the ground running at a sprint. And if you’re not prepared, you could miss out both financially and in terms of reputation.
How are you going to ensure this doesn’t happen?
Prepare to be busy. Keep your Christmas temps on for an extra week, set a filter on your emails to search out and delete the spam and prioritise doing the things that are most important.
A great start to the year will set a positive tone for the whole of 2023.
Don’t Lose Sight Of The Bigger Picture
As an entrepreneur, business owner or investor you have a lot to deal with, and often the big dreams for your business get overshadowed by the small stuff which piles up and blots out the light.
To realign yourself with your fundamental goals take some time now, whilst the Christmas period is in full swing, to sit quietly and write exactly what you want to achieve in 2023. Then, much like a satnav, work out what you need to do to get from A to B as directly as possible.
Mapping things out in this way will help to give you a clear understanding of exactly what steps you need to take to reach your ultimate destination.
As you move into the new year, there are bound to be distractions and diversions along the way. It’s inevitable. But to avoid veering too much off track, you can give more responsibility and accountability to the people around you.
By delegating tasks effectively to others, you’ll be able to remain focused on the bigger picture and more likely to achieve your dreams for 2023.
